"Hi, I'm Robyn, Tammy's first Canadian sewing student, and I'm
thrilled to be sharing the projects that Tammy has taught me how to create!
I've been hand-sewing for 3 years for my Etsy shop, but machines always
scared me.
Last summer I bit the bullet and bought a machine, thinking I would
just use it for some simple stuff, but it sat unused for 6 months because I was
still afraid of it. I was also afraid to take the heavy sonofagun to a fancy
sewing class. Then, as fate would have it, I found Tammy on Kijiji and inquired
about the possibility of having her come to my home to teach me how to use my
machine. She was so friendly and responsive and had great rates; I knew
immediately this was going to be a great fit. It's been only 3 weeks, and I
have three fun things to show for our time working together!"
1) A Rag doll. Getting to know my machine, learning the basic straight stitch and sewing on a curve was the focus of my first lesson. With these new skills, I gave a doll pattern a go and had it ready to show Tammy the next week. My doll is not perfect, but I love her! :)
2) A reversible kimono dress. Reading a pattern, pinning and cutting pieces, inserting ribbon, and turning were the skills we worked on next for this adorable dress. My daughter wouldn't cooperate for a picture but here is the dress in all its reversible glory! Now to make a matching one for her big sister . . .
3) A patchwork zipper pouch. Tammy suggested this pattern/tutorial and I'm so glad she did. I'm overstocked on too-cute Japanese printed fabric, and this was the perfect use for it. The big skill here was using my zipper foot--there's no way I could have figured it out on my own. I love this pouch! I take it with me everywhere to show it off.
Thank you Tammy!
Next up: button holes! Can't wait :)

"I met Tammy several years ago at a mutual event and absolutely fell in love with her right away. She has a dynamic energy that I just want to surround myself with. She is kind, loving, genuine (a rare and refreshing characteristic to have in a friend) and an absolute ray of sunshine. I would highly recommend any opportunity for this woman to be in your life, whether it's for education, conversation, friendship or learning. "
